This policy explains how Rethink & Reuse handles personal data collected through this website. Rethink & Reuse is an editorial resource for UK households. It is not a shop and does not sell products. Who this covers
Anyone who reads the guides, browses the upcycling projects, or sends a message through this site. No account is needed to read, and no purchase is ever taken here.
What it does not cover
Third-party websites we link to for further reading, and any tools you use outside this site. Their own privacy notices apply when you visit them.

Data
What we collect
Two kinds: what you hand us, and what the site records quietly.
When you send a message through the contact page, we collect the details you provide — typically your name, your email address, and the content of your message. That is the whole of it. If you write to us about composting food scraps at home, a reusable produce bags guide, or beeswax wraps usage and care, the message simply arrives as you typed it.
We may also collect basic technical information such as your browser type and the pages you visit, if analytics are in use. That tells us which guides are being read — for example, whether the low waste home guide or the upcycling vs recycling difference piece is more useful. We do not collect payment details, because we do not process payments.
We do not ask for your address, your date of birth, or any special category information. Nothing on this site requires you to register, and there is no member area holding reader profiles.
If you would rather not use the contact form at all, you can reach us using the postal address or phone number shown at the foot of this page during working hours, and we will handle the enquiry the same way.
Why we collect it
To answer you, and to keep the reading working.
We use your contact details to reply to your message and to follow it up if you ask us to. We use technical information to understand which guides are useful and to keep the site working. We do not use your data for marketing, and we do not sell it to third parties.
In practice this means we might notice that a page on zero waste kitchen swaps is read more than one on sustainable shopping tips, and we might write more of the first. That kind of decision uses counts and pages, never your name or your message.
Legal basis for processing
We process contact details on the basis of your consent, given when you submit the contact form, and our legitimate interest in responding to reader enquiries.
Withdrawing consent
You can withdraw consent at any time by contacting us. If you do, we stop using your contact details and clear the message once no enquiry is open. Technical data is processed on the basis of our legitimate interest in operating and improving the site.
What we never do with it
We do not build advertising profiles, we do not pass your message to a mailing list, and we do not share it with partners for their own purposes. Reading this site never requires you to hand over anything.

How long we keep data
Held while the enquiry is open, then cleared.
We keep contact messages only as long as needed to handle your enquiry and any follow-up. Once the thread is closed and no further question is outstanding, we delete the message and your contact details with it.
Technical data, where collected, is kept for a limited period for site analysis. After that it is deleted or anonymised, so it no longer identifies a person. If you ask us to delete your data sooner, we will do that rather than wait for the period to run.
We do not keep messages indefinitely just in case, and there is no archive of past reader enquiries sitting on a server.
Your rights
Under UK data protection law you have rights over the personal data we hold. To exercise any of them, contact us through the contact page. We will respond to privacy requests as required by UK law.
Access and copies
You can ask what personal data we hold about you and receive a copy of it. In practice this is almost always the message you sent and the email address you sent it from.
Correction and deletion
If any detail is wrong, ask us to correct it. If you would rather we held nothing, ask us to erase it and we will remove the message and your contact details.
Objection and withdrawal
You can object to how we process your data, and you can withdraw consent at any time. Withdrawing consent simply means we stop using your details and close the enquiry.
